Kia ora e te whānau,
We are already half way through the school year with Matariki on the horizon. With the drop in temperature, the month of Pipiri, so aptly named with its meaning ‘to huddle, cling to and bind together,’ should signal us to decelerate the pace and fall into the more natural ebb and flow of our energy output. As we mark Māori New Year and travel through the winter season,I hope the upcoming break will be spent connecting with loved ones and nurturing your wellbeing after such a busy term. During Week 10 we will celebrate Matariki as a school by making one fantastic MATARIKI SOUP!
I am sure you will agree that the Kiwi Try was the highlight of our week this week. It gave our students an opportunity to live our school values. We saw students showing Responsibility, Resilience, being Respectful and so many Rangatira! Thank you to all our whānau that were able to join us on this special day. It means a lot to our students when they see their aunty or nana, or mama or papa in the audience. As a school, it gives us a sense of community. We also invited our Birdwood Kindy neighbours along to join in the fun and our whanaunga from Rānui School.
The basketball and football teams had the opportunity to attend local events. In the future we hope to be a part of more regular sports exchanges with our local schools. We want our students to practice their skills and then have the opportunity to put their skills into action. Again, we thank whānau that managed to make it to these events and take time out of their busy schedule.
Teachers have been busy writing Mid-Year Reports. These will go home in two weeks time. This is just to let you know how your children are tracking academically in Reading, Writing and Maths. You will have an opportunity to meet with your children's teachers in Term 3 to discuss ways that we can all support our children to achieve their goals. Keep an eye out for this email as you can book online, on paper, via email or with a phone call to school.
Please keep in contact with us if there is anything that we need to know to support your children. As always, our door is always open.
Ngā manaakitanga,
