A MESSAGE FROM OUR PRINCIPAL

Catch up on the latest news from our wonderful school
Tēnā koutou katoa e te whānau,
Fakaalofa lahi atu and welcome to Niuean Langauge Week!
The term is flying by with two weeks gone already! The weather has been fantastic which means some projects have been able to get underway in our Birdwood Beautification Project! Matua Muzz has been very busy over the holidays painting new car park lines and preparing the front entrance way for a mural that will represent who we are and our relationship with the Mana Whenua. Watch this space! The bottom courts have been closed off to repair the large cracks that appeared after the flooding early in 2024. We have new basketball back boards to go in as well. The council has also stepped in and are fixing our back fence and pathway. Very soon this will be back to how it used to be ... a serene walking path for our community. Early in November the top courts and junior play area will be closed off while the new astro-turf gets laid. I'll let you know when it's finished so you can come and have a look and try it out.
This Thursday we have planned a Kai & Kōrero session with our local iwi Te Kawerau ā Maki. This will give you an opportunity to meet Whaea Robin and Whaea Aleesha - two representatives from the iwi. This will kick off at 5.30 with a sausage sizzle and ice-blocks for the kids and from 6 - 7 we will hear all about the Mana Kura programme. This is a great whanaungatanga time (making connections) and an opportunity to ask questions.
As a school we have been excited to celebrate Fijian Language Week and Niuean Language Week, and during Week 3, Tokelau Language Week. We hope you can join us for assembly at 2pm on Friday. Coming up later in the term we would like to celebrate Diwali for the first time as a school. Please let me know if you are interested in helping us out with this.
If you have a child who is turning 5 next year, please pop in and complete the pre-enrolment process with Whaea Faye. This will help with planning for 2024.
As always, my door is always open! Please feel free to pop in at any time for a chat if you need anything at all.
Enjoy the long weekend and the short working week!
